I used to be a fan of H!P exclusivley, and maybe a few other groups as well. But I found that being a full-time H!P fan can get tiresome, for some reasons you mentioned, including worrying about favorite member's (lack of) line distribution and H!P's waning popularity in general. Recently, however, I find myself watching the charts and listening to a whole lot of stuff -- and really enjoying it if it's good -- without a whole lot of personal attachment to if the group does well or not. Don't get me wrong-- if MM manages another hit song I'll be really happy. But now I don't feel like I have to NOT be happy for other groups that do well. For example, I like AKB, I like some of their music, I like a lot of their members, I like watching them on TV shows, I am happy about their success. But when (and not if) their popularity fades, I'll just take it as the rest of casually-viewing Jpop fans would-- just something that happens.
